The Coen Brothers are Writing a “Musical Comedy”

While most of us are trying to get tickets to Inside Llewyn Davis when it hits theaters this week, its creators, the Coen brothers, are busy working on a “musical comedy” set around an opera. As they told Vulture, it’s one of two projects that the brothers are in the middle of.

“One of the two things we’re writing now, it’s not a musical per se,” said Ethan Coen, his brother quickly finishing his sentence with, “But it has what might be considered more traditional numbers.” Then Ethan summed it up neatly: “It’s a musical comedy.” The other project takes place in Rome with little much else known about it.

That being said, the brothers are focusing on their new movie release. The film stars Oscar Isaac, Justin Timberlake, Carey Mulligan and John Goodman, and its soundtrack features some of those same actors singing, like the classic “Five Hundred Miles” being done by Timberlake and Mulligan, among others. T Bone Burnett–known for his work on the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack–is helping out with this soundtrack as well, making it his fourth collaboration with the Coens.
